This fair will be held next June 10, 2023, at Casa San Felipe, where we will find talks, ventures, exhibitors, and of course, lots of music and local talent. So if you, a reader, have a project that you have been working on or a venture, we invite you to enter the website of the organizers of this “Expo” called “Metal Live Support Media”.

Now, I would like to talk a little about these two important musical genres that will be the protagonists in this first edition and we hope there will be many more.

Rock and metal are two of the most influential and enduring genres of popular music. From the early days of Chuck Berry and Elvis Presley to the modern era of Metallica and Iron Maiden, these genres have shaped the cultural landscape and inspired countless musicians and fans around the world.

Rock music is characterized by its use of electric guitars, drums, and bass, often accompanied by vocals and other instruments such as keyboards or saxophones. It emerged in the United States in the 1950s, influenced by a range of musical styles, including blues, country, and jazz. The genre quickly gained popularity, with acts such as The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, and Led Zeppelin becoming some of the biggest musical acts of the 1960s and 1970s.

Elvis Presley - Suspicious Minds

Metallica: Nothing Else Matters

Led Zeppelin - Whole Lotta Love

Rock music continued to evolve throughout the 1980s and 1990s, with the emergence of subgenres such as punk, grunge, and alternative rock. These movements brought new sounds and attitudes to the genre, often characterized by a DIY aesthetic and a rejection of mainstream culture.

Metal music emerged in the late 1960s and early 1970s, with bands such as Black Sabbath and Deep Purple pioneering a heavier, more intense sound that would come to define the genre. Metal is characterized by its use of distorted guitars, fast tempos, and powerful vocals, often with lyrics that explore darker themes such as death, violence, and the occult.

Like rock, metal has continued to evolve and diversify, with subgenres such as thrash metal, death metal, and black metal each bringing their own unique sound and aesthetic to the genre. Today, metal is one of the most popular genres of music, with acts such as Metallica, Iron Maiden, and Slipknot among the biggest and most influential bands in the world.

Iron Maiden - The Number Of The Beast

Despite their differences, both rock and metal share a common focus on live performance and a passion for creating music that speaks to people on a visceral level. From the energy and excitement of a packed stadium to the intimate connection between artist and audience in a small club, rock, and metal music have always been about more than just entertainment – they are a way of life, a cultural force that transcends boundaries and unites people around the world.

At the same time, rock and metal music have also faced criticism and controversy, with some critics arguing that the genres promote violence, drug use, and other negative behaviors. However, fans and artists alike argue that these criticisms are misguided, and that rock and metal music can actually be a force for positive change and social commentary.

Indeed, many rock and metal songs have addressed important social and political issues, from war and poverty to gender and sexuality. Bands like Rage Against the Machine, System of a Down, and Slipknot have used their music as a platform for speaking out against injustice and advocating for change, while others, like Metallica and Iron Maiden, have tackled more personal themes such as love, loss, and the human experience.

Ultimately, rock and metal music are about much more than just sound – they are a way of life, a cultural phenomenon that has inspired generations of musicians and fans alike. Whether you prefer the raw energy of early rock and roll or the intense power of modern metal, there is something for everyone in these enduring and influential genres.

Rock and Metal in our country, Colombia

Our country has had a long and great musical journey through these two genres, some bands are better known than others, but behind them, there is a lot of history that deserves to be remembered and we will do it in another article.
For now, we deserve to talk a little about these genres in the country (in honor of Expo Rock metal in its first edition).

Rock and metal music have been popular genres in Colombia for many years, with a thriving scene that has produced some of the country’s most successful and influential bands. While rock and metal may not be as popular as other genres like reggaeton or salsa, there is a dedicated fan base and many talented musicians working in these styles.

One of the most successful and well-known rock bands from Colombia is Aterciopelados, who formed in the early 1990s and quickly gained popularity with their blend of rock, punk, and traditional Colombian rhythms. Their albums have won numerous awards and critical acclaim, and they continue to be one of the most respected and influential bands in the country.

Metal music is also popular in Colombia, with a number of bands working in various subgenres. One of the most successful and influential metal bands from Colombia is Masacre, who formed in the 1980s and have become known for their intense, brutal sound that draws on influences from death metal, grindcore, and thrash metal.

Other notable Colombian metal bands include Reencarnacion, a black metal band with a strong cult following; Neurosis Inc., a death metal band with a technical, progressive sound; and Carnal, a death metal band with a more traditional, old-school sound. In addition to these established bands, there are many up-and-coming musicians and bands working in rock and metal in Colombia. The country has a number of festivals and events dedicated to these genres, including the Bogotá Beer Company Festival and the Altavoz Festival in Medellín, which showcase local and international acts.

Despite the popularity of rock and metal in Colombia, these genres have faced some challenges over the years. In the 1980s and 1990s, metal music was associated with satanism and other negative stereotypes, and many concerts were banned or shut down by authorities. More recently, some

Despite their success, rock and metal music in Colombia has faced its share of challenges. For many years, the country was plagued by violence and political instability, which made it difficult for artists to tour and perform. In recent years, however, the situation has improved, and rock and metal bands are now able to perform more freely and reach a wider audience. Additionally, many Colombian rock and metal bands have faced challenges in gaining recognition outside of the country. While bands like Aterciopelados have enjoyed international success, many others struggle to break through in a crowded global music market.
